Interested in the literary side of painting, this conceptual artist has created disturbing work relating the narrative aspect of an image to the power of language. Seen as a visual poet, his paintings are photo-collages that tell a story by combining contrasting materials and adding very graphic elements. John Baldassari employs different techniques such as painting, film and even sculpture, which he inserts into his pictures.

Currently living in Santa Monica, Baldassari has participated in the Documenta and the Venice Biennale several times ; his work is exhibited at the Tate Modern and the Metropolitan Museum, amongst other places.
