Urs Fischer |1973 , Born in Zurich

Urs Fischer is a Swiss artist who lives and works in New York. His versatile manner of working breaks with traditional artistic mediums, with the use of practical and organic materials from everyday life. Wood, metal, glue, wax and even polystyrene are assembled in surrealist compositions that explore the quality of the materials, and are often impermanent, incorporating edible and perishable fruits into the installations. Despite never attending art school, Urs Fischer has become a successor to the anti-art movements, reinterpreting and fetishizing objects through exploration of the traditional genres of portraiture, still life and landscape. He challenges our perceptions with humour and irony, delving into the unexpected and blurring distinctions between what we can see and what we can’t.
