Chen Jiagang |1962 , Born in Chong Qing, China

Almost unknown a few years ago, Chen Jiagang is one of the most popular artists in China today. He graduated from the Architecture College of Chong Qing in 1984 and then worked as a state registered architect. It wasn't until 1997 that he founded the Sichuan Upriver Museum, the first private museum in China, and decided to dedicate himself to purely artistic endeavours, which was the start of his career as an artist. In 2002, he won the 20th China Photgraphic Exhibition.

His images, a mix of documentary and staged photographs, tell the story of contemporary China, industrial and poor at the same time. His work forms part of important collections such as MoMa and the International Centre of Photography in New York.
